How these calculators are built
Each tool reads a small pricing file of its own, and every row in that file is one published statement by one named company or public body, stored with the sentence it came from. The calculator selects rows and adds them up. It cannot produce a figure that no source printed, because there is nowhere for such a figure to live.
Where sources disagree, WaterproofingIndex widens the range rather than averaging. Three Ontario plumbers pricing the same pump swap at $500 to $1,200, $500 to $1,200 and $1,400 to $2,400 produce a published range of $500 to $2,400 here. That is wider and less satisfying than a single number, and it is what the market actually said.

Are these calculators free, and do they want my email?
- They are free and they ask for nothing. Every calculator on this page computes its answer in your browser and shows it immediately. Nothing is submitted, no address is collected and no quote request is generated. A calculator that withholds its answer until you identify yourself is a lead form, not a calculator.
Where do the prices in these tools come from?
- From published Ontario price lists, City of Toronto programme pages and Canadian retailers, each read in August 2026 and named beside the figure it supports. Where two sources disagree the range on the page widens to cover both rather than settling on an average, because an average is a number nobody actually quoted.
How close will a calculator get to my real quote?
- Close enough to tell you whether a quote is sane, and not close enough to replace one. These tools know the published market rate for a job type. They cannot see how deep your basement is, what is buried against the wall, whether a machine can reach the side yard or how much finished space has to come out, and those four things are usually the difference between the bottom of a range and the top.
Do the prices include HST?
- The published trade prices are quoted before tax, so each calculator adds Ontario's 13 per cent HST and shows both figures. That matters more than it sounds: on a $15,000 waterproofing job the tax alone is $1,950, and a quote compared against a before-tax range will always look worse than it is.
