Quote FAQs

Is WaterproofingIndex free to use?

Yes, and nothing on this site is ever charged to a property owner. A listing is free too, and no company can buy a better position: the order on every list comes from a published formula, and there is no advertising slot on this site. When you send this form, we pass your job to one of the highest-scoring companies listed in your area so they can quote it.

Who will contact me after I submit?

One waterproofing contractor. We read what comes in and pass your name, phone number and description of the job to one of the highest-scoring companies listed in your area, and they call you about it. Your details are not published, not sold, and not sent to a list of companies to fight over. Our privacy policy sets out exactly how your information is handled, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Interior or exterior waterproofing, and which do I need?

They solve different problems and cost very different amounts, which is why the form asks what you are seeing rather than which method you want. Exterior work means excavating to the footing and sealing the wall from outside; interior work means managing water that gets in and routing it to a sump. A contractor who diagnoses before prescribing will tell you which your symptom calls for, and sometimes the answer is drainage or grading rather than either.

Is there a city subsidy for a backwater valve?

Toronto and several surrounding municipalities have run basement flooding protection subsidies covering backwater valves and sump pumps, and the terms change, so we do not quote amounts here. Ask the contractors quoting you, and ask before the work starts: these programs generally require the application and sometimes an inspection in a particular order, and doing the work first can disqualify it.

How do you choose which company gets my request?

By the same published score that sets the order of every list on this site, filtered to companies that work in your area and do the kind of work you described. Nobody pays to be picked, and no company can raise their own score by submitting anything to us. We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, so ask for those before you sign anything.
